INTERVIEW
(Conversation spotlight: Deepak Sharma and Monika Singh)

1. Why did you decide to quit your corporate job & join as a volunteer in an NGO?

Deepak Sharma: It was my dream to give back to society when I was 36. There was an event which in fact led me to quit corporate when I was 53 in 2013 to work for girls’ education.
For more details please read my book “Wings To Fly” available on Amazon and Flipkart.

2. Your book "Wings To Fly" has an awesome title. I've heard a few Book lovers in my community praising it & feeling excited about it. How did you create such an awesome title, and what inspired you to write this book?

Deepak Sharma: I finished writing this book in January 2022. It took me almost 18 months to complete it. However, the title was more by accident than by design. In those days I was reading Dr. Kalam’s Wings of Fire. While discussing several titles for my book one of my friends gave the brilliant idea of titling it Wings To Fly. It sounded apt, as I and my wife have been working with out-of-home children especially girls since 2009 and raising them as our own children with the best of educational and vocational support.

3. The vision of the NGO focuses on girls’ higher education and women's empowerment. How do you handle running it when people outside there try to suppress independent girls and women in the name of feminism, woke, and many more?

Deepak Sharma: Our girls' higher education program is centered around bright and aspirational girls from economically weaker sections of society. During the 5-6 years of the journey, these girls stay in our program, we have structured modules, workshops, training, etc. for these girls. Apart from this, each girl has a mentor who is always available for guidance and moral support.
We regularly interact with the parents of these girls. Also, we do a lot of work on the mental health of these girls knowing fully well their background and the struggles they undergo.
We also invite senior women executives from across all sectors from time to time to interact with the young Shalinis (empowered women) as we address them.

4. When you discovered your writing passion or did the thought hit your mind that you have to write a book?

Deepak Sharma: In fact couple of my close friends pushed me to write the book capturing my volunteering journey with Udayan Care as they had seen me giving up my social life for the cause of girls’ education.

5. What challenges did you face while writing "Wings To Fly," and how did you overcome them?

Deepak Sharma: I would say there were hardly any challenges while writing the book. In fact, I had the habit of writing a diary since I got associated with Udayan Care in 2009. Those past notes really buoyed me in recalling so many of the success stories and memorable events over some time. The same has been captured in my book.

Deepak Sharma
6. Many Women claiming themselves successful are also not very supportive of the growth of Girls. So how do you prepare the NGO Girls to face all the wrath, and what tips do you share with them to deal with such suppressors?

Deepak Sharma: We conduct workshops on topics like mental health, time management, communication skills, employability, leadership skills, career awareness and guidance, Assertive and emotional intelligence, Workplace bias-women’s rights, Problem-solving, conflict management, presentation skills, and many more.
These workshops and corporate visit exposures throughout the 5-6 year period adequately groom them to take up all challenges thrown at them from time to time.

7. How did your Author, Corporate, NGO Volunteer, and Trustee experience influence your perspective on the condition of Modern-day girls and real life?

Deepak Sharma: I joined Udayan Care in 2009 as a part-time volunteer after working for 30 years in corporate and slowly took up different roles over some time. Finally decided to write the book in 2022. Definitely the same has influenced my perspective on the progress the girls have made over the years. To know more please get a copy of my book Wings To Fly.

8. Can you throw some light on the main characters of the book "Wings to Fly"

Deepak Sharma: In fact, several characters are central to the book. However, foremost is my late father whose legacy and values inspired me to work for society with the sole intent of giving my time, love, knowledge, and personal wealth back to society. My book Wings To Fly too is dedicated to him. Apart from him, my mother, my wife, and several of my daughters are part of the book. Each one is equally important.

9. "Wings To Fly" deals with important themes. What are you expecting from it when it is about resonating with the lives of people and leaving a long-lasting impact on the hearts and lives of people?

Deepak Sharma: I have divided the book into three sections, earn and return. The message I want to give to society is that each one is capable of contributing to society in some way. They should all do that especially when they turn 55/60 years of age. As an old maxim in Bhagavad-gita states- We all came empty-handed and will go empty-handed. We in our family are practicing it in letter and spirit.

10. Are there any particular girls or women who have influenced your life journey from corporate to NGO Trustee?

Deepak Sharma: I was highly influenced by Mother Teresa’s work of service to society. She is my biggest inspiration in terms of service to mankind. I have captured that in my book as well. After I joined Udayan Care, its founder and Managing Trustee Dr. Kiran Modi whom I address as didi became my inspiration.

11. What advice would you give to the future of India about women's empowerment?

Deepak Sharma: What I would like to state is nothing new. In my view, if India has to become a developed nation, higher education for girls will be the single biggest factor towards reaching that goal. I believe in an old African proverb: If you educate a girl you educate a whole family (nation).
We need more and more women on the Board of Corporate and other important roles and positions.

12. From where people can buy your books?

Deepak Sharma: They are available online. Here are some links.

For Indians: Amazon Flipkart

For international: Amazon

It is a challenging world out there. Over half the people suffer from emotional pain from unnecessary professional life burdens. And this hustle culture has brought a new system of taking Instant Actions to destroy your plans and mental health.

What to do?

Beat the idealogy with its method. Here is how to do it:

“We cannot change what we are not aware of, and once we are aware, we cannot help but change.” ~ Sheryl Sanberg

The problem is that we are unaware of the critical issues and problems we might face in the future if we do not come out from Instant actions and decisions without reflecting on the significant unwanted results and circumstances.

We directly jump for the actions and later fall into the trap of suffering and overthinking because, in the past, we forgot to analyze what wrong can happen after reacting quickly or taking instant actions.

I am not against Actions. I can only favor the idealogy of reacting with understanding the circumstances. And unnecessary suffering because of it. Because it takes away the mental peace and all joy of the present moment.

That’s why it’s important to understand the reasons in depth to help you overcome the situation. And here is a help Kit for you!

Imagine you get trapped in the vampires! How will your life be turned?

Book Review of the book - Beauty And The Vampires

Book Title: Beauty And The Vampires: One Girl Holds The Future Of the Blood Empire

Author: Sukriti Jaswal

Book Review by Monika Singh

Set in the 18th century, this book is an intriguing story about vampires and human interaction.

Two kings, Damian and Nicholas, who are Vampires, have their share of fights and search to gain power via the search for Elixir.

Mia is a 17-year-old girl who works in the bakery shop of her Aunt. One day she was attacked by 2 vampires and the bakery shop was set to fire. Before more damage, Vampires Nicholas saved Mia.

For a living, she started working in the human slave pet shop, where humans were kept behind bars so Vampires could buy and feed on them.

One day, a Vampire visited the shop and kept an offer in front of Mia.

Mia, the human cook, was taken to the castle of Vampires to prepare delicious food for them.

Soon, she got her room & special treatment from the kingdom people, King Damian & his brother Nicholas & Sister Eugene.

Her younger step-sister, 7-year-old Alice, was also invited to the Vampire Castle and given a separate room by Nicholas.

One day, Mia reached Gabe’s room to meet Lucinda, whom she knew from the pet shop. Gabe was overpowered by Vampire blood lust. He grabbed Mia to suck her blood. But she was saved by the King Vampire.

Mia was curious to wander into the Vampire castle. One day she reached the Mystic Woods, where she met the wise women Cassandra, and 2 others.

Cassandra predicted Mia is the protector of Elixir. Mia was in disbelief. She got a book in the Library that has a story about Mystic Woods and Elixir. Since then, Mia has been curious to know more about it. She started asking the royals of the Vampire’s Kingdom in her way.

She realized how even Kings have to compromise with their loneliness despite having so much crowd in the surroundings!

She visited the Mystic woods again to learn more about Elixir, and King Damian caught her there.

A romance between a human and a Vampire happens through kisses.

The story turns towards the fight between two kings, Damian and Nicholas when Gabe is kidnapped.

The story took another turn!

Someone from the castle was deceiving them in the name of innocence.

She was there to gain the powers of the Elixir.
A great fight happened. Things change.

Mia was struggling in life and death situation.

What happened next?
Who will get the elixir?
How will the story unfold?
Will the romantic moment between Mia and Vampire King Damian get a happy ending?

What I like!

The story is intriguing, and the language is lucid. I found the story chilling with the interaction of humans and vampires instead of a horror one.
But some bizarre scenes have thrilling vibes. The suspense is well maintained. I’m waiting for the next book by the Author Sukriti Jaswal.

Recommended To

I recommend this book to fictional and suspense story lovers looking for a new story to lighten their mood or dive into another world.

I love this book. And I'm surprised to see how Men think about relationships!

It's eye-opening for a successful career-oriented Man who sees how his Wife, Friend (girl), Love, Mom, think about Marriage & relationships.

Book: Jasmines of Twilight
Author: Amit Sengupta

Book Review by Monika Singh

Rahul, the story's main character, is from a middle-class family, which makes him Career oriented. So he calculates everything in money, profit, and loss. He reaches a greater height in his career.

One day he finds his only daughter Shama who's polio disabled, on a romantic trip.

While seeking the answers to why she is outgrown when her father, Rahul, can provide everything, he goes through great conversations.

Started with his wife, Sumita. When he did not agree with her answers, he went to his friend Aruna.

During the conversations, Aruna confessed that Rahul thinks differently about the relationship. Aruna has also tried to propose to Rahul several times, but he is too, Protective and never understands her hints.

She has no regrets as she at least took a chance, & still, she is grateful for their friendship. On this failed Romantic trip, she went on another wild romantic trip where her love was accepted & she got married to a great businessman.

So, Aruna also disagreed with Rahul's decision about her daughter, Shama.
Rahul was again disappointed and went to her mother, Aloka.

He was again surprised to see a 75-year-old mother is more modern than Rahul and his considerations about romance and relationships. Aloka took the responsibility of explaining to Rahul. As Shama is a human being & not a Robot, she tries to explain her perspective to save her family.

Now the Wise Man, Rahul was confused and constantly questioned his life and professional achievements.

To seek the answers, he went to his Love, which was parted as his Father decided on his marriage.

What happened next?
Will he be able to seek the answers and clarity he is looking for?

Pick the book to know more. You'll not regret it!

What I love about the story is,
The writing style is great and intriguing & language is simple. The best thing is the great flow. The conversations are awesome, with well-developed characters. The title does great justice to the story.

And, despite achievements, the Successful Man is wiser to seek answers instead of forcing his decisions.

I want to recommend this book to every man who feels that he cannot understand the women in their life. Be it wife, friend, girlfriend, daughter, or even mom.

I have observed several real-life examples of how people say money matters a lot.

I want to request these Men to pick up this book to save at least your sister's or daughter's future!
